How to scan a QR code from an image

A screenshot contains the same information as a printed code. You can decode it without pointing a camera at another screen.

Choose an original image

Open the image reader and choose a PNG, JPG or WebP file. You can also drop it into the scan frame or paste an image from your clipboard. Avoid messaging app thumbnails if you have the original screenshot.

Keep the border

Include the complete code and its surrounding light margin. If a picture contains several codes, crop to one code at a time. Large pictures may be easier to decode after cropping out unrelated content.

Review the result

Read the decoded text and hostname before choosing Open URL. Saving a screenshot does not make its destination trustworthy. The image reader works locally after the app has been cached.

Try the scanner, generator or QR checker. Your images and QR payloads are processed locally.

Install Valid QR Scan

In your browser menu, choose “Install app” or “Add to Home Screen”. On iPhone or iPad, open Share, then Add to Home Screen. In Safari on Mac, use File, then Add to Dock.

Visit once online and wait for “Offline tools ready”. Scanning and generation can then work without a connection. Opening a web destination still needs internet.
